Position at UF: Assistant Scientist, Department of Botany, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences      

Job before this one: Lecturer, Washington State University

Current research interest, in layman’s terms: My research focuses on the genetics of rarity, investigating the population genetic and evolutionary consequences of being a species on the edge of extinction. I use molecular tools to help manage the genetic resources of rare plants, as well as investigate their evolutionary history.

Education: Ph.D., Washington State University

Family: Wife, Rae; Son, Jonathan (3 years); and a baby on the way…

When I'm not at work, I am: Spending time with my family, often out exploring Florida’s beaches, parks and springs.

Last non-work related book: “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson

Last movie in a theater and your thoughts: Did I mention I had a 3-year-old?

Something always in your refrigerator: Beer

People would be surprised to know that:  I grew up in Australia and Brazil … much more exciting than Detroit.
