Current research interest, in layman’s terms: Our research is focused on understanding how cells control their epigenetic information. In particular, we are trying to understand how DNA methylation is targeted to or restricted from certain regions of the genome. Proper regulation of DNA methylation patterns is essential for normal development, differentiation, and for maintaining normal cell growth control in mammalian cells. By understanding the cellular DNA methylation machinery, particularly the DNA methyltransferases, we expect to gain important insights into normal development and human diseases like cancer.
